Jo-Anne Balcaen (b. 1971, La Broquerie, Manitoba) is a Montreal-based artist who works primarily in video and installation. Her work examines the commercialization of desire through popular culture, and how this creates an inflated sense of expectation. Her recent focus has been the relationship between popular music and obsessive female fandom. Since 1995, Balcaen has exhibited her work in venues throughout Quebec, Canada, Europe, and the US.

Jo-Anne Balcaen (née 1971, La Broquerie, Manitoba) est une artiste montréalaise qui travaille principalement en vidéo et en installation. Elle s’intéresse à la commercialization du désir par la culture de consommation et la culture populaire, et aux attentes irréalistes engendrées par un tel processus. Son travail récent aborde le comportement obssessif des amateurs de music populaire. Depuis 1995, son travail a été présenté dans plusieurs lieux au Québec, au Canada, ainsi qu’en Europe et aux États-Unis.
