Neon signs

2003 Neon, Plexiglas, dimensions variable

This series of neon signs stems from my interest in using commercial signage and cliché language to express sincere emotions. I use neon for its associations with nostalgia, crass commercialism and its use within consumer culture as a device of distraction and embellishment.

Cette série d’enseignes en néon est issu de mon intérêt pour l’utilisation de l’affichage commercial et des clichés dans l’expression d’émotions sincères. Je choisis de travailler avec les néons pour leur évocation de la nostalgie et du mercantilisme grossier. Je m’intéresse aussi à leur utilisation fréquente dans la culture de la consommation comme moyen de divertissement ou d’embellissement.
