Screaming Girls

2005 Single-channel video, silent, 2:28

Screaming Girls appropriates film images of teen-aged girls enraptured by rock ‘n’ roll performances. Stripped of sound, the subtle manipulation of this familiar pop adulation becomes a study of mass hysteria. As the severity of the expression mounts, the work draws on a still-contemporary phenomenon that in turn reflects upon a kind of fervor that popular culture is complicit in cultivating.

Exhibition history: Centre Clark, Montréal (2006); Truck Contemporary Art, Calgary, AB (2007); Modern Fuel Gallery, Kingston, ON, (2009); PAVED Media Arts, Saskatoon, SK (2009); Platform Gallery, Winnipeg, MB (2011); L’Ecart, Rouyn-Noranda, QC (2013); Foreman Art Gallery, Bishop’s University, Lennoxville, QC (2014); L’Oeil de Poisson, Québec (2015); Mount Saint-Vincent University Art Gallery, Halifax (2016); Kamloops Art Gallery, Kamloops (2017)
